My sister and I were speaking the other day about movies....and the subject of favorites came up.
Love movies, always have and am amazed when I realize how many of them I've seen. So picking out the favorites can get to be rather a chore. Everytime you think you've got the list, you are reminded about half a dozen others!
Another thing about lists, is how your tastes change over the years. I've seen some movies that I LOVED during the 1960's recently, and man, were they awful.....that's a big Go Figger.
So this list of my favorite movies is going to be constantly changing.
1. THE MUSIC MAN.....this has been at the top of my list for the last 20 or so years. Robert Preston and Shirly Jones are superb and the movie (for me at least) never grows old.
2. THE QUIET MAN.....A superb story with one of the most perfect casts ever assembled.
3. CASABLANCA.....Just watched this again the other night and am reminded of the depth of the cast. From top to bottom this film has perfect casting and perfect performances.
4. THE GODFATHER.....The first of the trilogy was to my mind by far the best. A compelling story of the Mafia lifestyle and one mans fall into evil.
5. LORD OF THE RINGS.....I count this trilogy as one movie, because it was one book (I know, I know...so was the Godfather). Director Peter Jackson did what I thought couldn't be done in bringing the scope and majesty of Tolkien's story to the screen, in a satisfying manner. If you have the chance, watch the Directors cut of all 3 of them, it's well worth the extra three plus hours (!) it will take.
Well I have about a bazillion things to be done, so will come back to this later.....so behave.
God Bless
